Welcome to the August 2026 edition of the JVSGBI, which is a free, open-access, quarterly, online journal that represents the whole vascular community. The JVSGBI has published over 160 articles in total, which include 32 editorials, 67 original research articles, 18 protocols and 29 case reports. The JVSGBI website had over 20,000 hits in the first four months of 2026, with wide spread interest across the globe

This edition begins with an editorial outlining the VSGBI plans to address global vascular surgery to improve outcomes and achieve equitable surgical care for all, particularly in underserved populations such as low and middle income countries.

This issue also contains two original research articles, a systematic review and three case reports. The first original article from Owaga and colleagues analyse the reliability of 3 different tools used to score calcification on peripheral CT angiograms. The second original article from Howitt and colleagues presents results from an online survey designed to capture practice variation during the consent process of patients undergoing superficial venous intervention. The systematic review and meta-analysis by Imperatore and colleagues evaluates the prognostic utility of natriuretic peptides for predicting adverse postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing vascular surgery.

The first case report from Tufts and colleagues describes an anatomical iliac artery variation, the second case report from Marquez and colleagues from Colombia describes an unusual presentation of a splenic artery aneurysm, and the third case report and literature review by Daysley and colleagues describes the management of a radial artery pseudoaneurysm.

In September 2026 the JVSGBI Editorial Board aims to resubmit a MEDLINE application. This is the earliest that MEDLINE will accept a reapplication. The Board are working hard to ensure the resubmission addresses the detailed feedback from our previous unsuccessful submission.
